What Happens to the Wood in Uniontown
Tree Removal in Uniontown raises a question most people do not think about until the tree is on the ground: where does all that wood go? Lake Township runs a yard waste facility on Midway Street NW, but its rules are strict. It takes only biodegradable yard waste, branches can be no more than 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet long, and cut trees, logs and stumps are not accepted at all. A single mature tree can produce several tons of trunk wood, so the disposal plan matters as much as the cutting.
Resident drop-off versus a full removal
The facility is for Lake Township and Hartville residents with a yard waste key card, which costs $25 a year, and commercial contractors are not allowed to use it. Dump trucks, dump trailers and trailers longer than 10 feet are turned away. That works fine for spring pruning, but not for a removal. Our estimates always say what happens to the wood: hauled away, cut into firewood rounds and stacked, or chipped and left as mulch. The stump can be ground below grade, which takes care of the one thing the township will never accept.
Seasonal timing
The township facility closes for the season at the end of November and reopens in early April, so it is not available in winter at all. Winter is actually a good time for many removals: leaves are off, the ground is often frozen and firm for access, and the crown is easier to read. If you have a tree you want gone before spring, call (330) 433-8160 and we will schedule it.
A crossroads that grew into a suburb
Uniontown was platted in 1816 and named for two stagecoach lines that met there. It never incorporated, but it had 7,173 residents in the 2020 census and sits in the middle of Lake Township between Akron and Canton. After the Valley Railroad bypassed it around 1880, businesses moved away and the area turned mostly residential. Today that means a mix of older homes near the crossroads and newer lots farther out, many with an old fence-row of trees along the back line. Fence-row trees were never pruned for structure, and they are often the first to drop big limbs.
Mixed ground from old gravel pits
The Industrial Excess Landfill south of Uniontown began as a sand and gravel pit before it became a landfill in 1966, which hints at the sandy, gravelly glacial soils found in parts of Lake Township. Trees on well-drained sand can suffer badly in dry summers and decline from the top down.
Lines and storms
The Canton Repository has listed Lake Township among Ohio Edison's affected areas in county windstorms. If a tree has brought down a wire, stay back and call Ohio Edison. Once the line is safe, we can clear the tree and the mess. Get a free estimate

Uniontown Questions
Can I take the tree you cut down to the Lake Township yard waste site?
Not the trunk or the stump. The facility takes branches up to 6 inches across and 4 feet long, and refuses logs, cut trees and stumps. That is why our quotes include hauling or another plan for the wood.
Can you leave the wood for firewood?
Yes. We can cut the trunk into rounds and stack them where you want. Let us know during the estimate and the quote will reflect it.
Is winter a bad time to remove a tree?
No. Many removals are easier in winter because the leaves are off and frozen ground supports equipment better. The main exception is a tree with an urgent problem, which should not wait for any season.
Do you cover all of Lake Township, not just Uniontown?
Yes. We work throughout the township, including Hartville and the rural roads in between.
