Minerva, Where Three Counties Meet
Tree Removal in Minerva covers a village that is unusual on the map: it sits mostly in Stark and Carroll counties, with a small district in Columbiana County. Minerva had 3,684 residents at the 2020 census, and it lies along Sandy Creek in the hillier country of southeastern Stark County. We serve the village and the rural roads around it, wherever the county line happens to fall.
Why county lines matter for trees
They mostly do not, for private trees on your own lot. But if a tree is near a road, the road authority could be the village, a township, one of three counties or the state, and trees in a road right-of-way may belong to them. If a tree stands close to the pavement, find out who owns the road before removing it. We can help you sort that out during the estimate.
The village grew from a mill
In 1818, surveyor John Whitacre bought 125 acres to build a log mill, and the town grew around it. He named it for his niece, Minerva Ann Taylor. The Sandy and Beaver Canal drove early growth, then the railroad took over. Minerva was established in 1833 and incorporated in 1862. Many homes near the center are older, with mature trees that were planted generations ago.
Housing and vacancy
The 2020 census counted 1,741 housing units in Minerva, about 8% of them vacant. Vacant and neglected lots are where trees most often go unmanaged for years, and a dead tree next door can become your problem when it falls. If you are buying or fixing up a property, a tree walkthrough is worth doing early.
Snow, ice and wind in the hills
Hilltop and ridge properties catch more wind, and northeast Ohio's wet snow and ice add weight to branches. Trees with weak forks, decay or heavy dead limbs fail first. Before winter, it is worth having a look at the big trees near your house and drive.
Older homes and close trees
Many homes near the center of Minerva were built when it was normal to plant shade trees right beside the house. Decades later, those trees can overhang the roof, crowd the foundation and drop limbs on gutters. Taking one out next to a house is careful, piece-by-piece work, and we explain how we will protect the roof and walls before we start.
Valley and hillside work
Sandy Creek's valley grows big, fast, soft-wooded trees, while the hills around town mean sloped yards. Both change how a tree comes down. We plan for slopes, wet ground and limited access, and the written estimate explains it. Call (330) 433-8160 to set up a visit. Get a free estimate

Minerva Questions
Who owns the tree between the sidewalk and the street?
It depends on the road and the local rules. In many Ohio villages, the area along the street is public right-of-way. Check with the village before removing a tree there.
Can you remove a dead tree on a vacant lot next to me?
We can only work for the owner of the property, or with their permission. If the dead tree threatens your house, contact the owner and the village.
Do you work in the Carroll and Columbiana parts of Minerva?
Yes. We cover the whole village and the surrounding townships.
What is the best season to remove a tree?
Any season can work. Winter often makes access easier, but a dangerous tree should not wait.
Can you grind stumps on a hillside?
Usually. Very steep or uneven ground can limit where a grinder can go, but most yard stumps can be reached. We check during the estimate.
Will you leave the chips?
If you want them for mulch, yes. Otherwise we rake and haul them.
Do you remove trees for landlords and estates?
Yes. We can coordinate access with tenants or family members and send the written estimate to whoever is responsible for the property.
